Constipation is determined in the colon (large intestine), which is responsible for packaging and eliminating stool. As food moves through the colon, it absorbs water while forming stool. Muscle contractions (squeezing motions) in the colon push the stool toward the rectum (the lower 8 to 10 inches of the large intestine). By the time stool reaches the rectum, it is solid, because most of the water has been absorbed.

* Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water regularly. This will prevent dehydration thereby producing softer bowel movements.
* Lifestyle changes consist of exercising, reserving enough time to have a bowel movement and having a bowel movement when needed.
* Cabbage juice also is beneficial in treating constipation. Have half cup cabbage juice two times a day to counter constipation problem.
* Avoid smoking and alcoholism and also avoid drinking strong coffee/tea.

Constipation is a common problem of the digestive area. If the bowels do not move regularly or are not completely emptied and even after moving; you are constipated. A) Get up early in the morning and go for a walk daily.
B) Avoid tight clothes or belts. These can hold back your digestive system.
C) Limit intake of tobacco, tea, coffee and hot spices.
D) Don't take daily naps and especially within 3 hours of eating.
E) Fast at least once in a week.
F) Make a schedule and stick to it because schedules work well with your body's natural body clock.
G) Exercise regularly for at least 20-25 minutes daily.
